Name: Wiskers Guiding Service Red_RiverWell Howdy all.. Looks like summer is really trying to arrive. The water is getting a bit warmer but the cold nights are keeping that at a slow pace. Have not been on the Red as of yet due to Boat trouble, like not having one.. New boat just got done today but goes back in the shop again, sigh... I have been hitting the Red Lake river and getting some Walleyes by mistake and the cats are finely starting to nibble, they are very light and slow.. We need rain to make our river boat able. Sun(27th),south230-530pm,35mph gusts!4+8lb Cats and a northern bit me off.Seen 4 deer swimming to Minn. Mon(28th)south4-7pm,3lb on goldeye,4,4,8+13lb on suckers,plus a 15lb on a chub.The runs are getting longer,but bites(which are every5min!)are LIGHT.Try downsizing the bait(+hook).Half the fish caught in past week were from holding the rod;feeling the bait pull down;so you know they have it good;then setting the hook.Good Luck Guys. Name: Scott McNamee Red_RiverThe Ice in Grand Forks has moved nearly 1/2 mile downstream from the dam. The water levels have started to recede. A person could put a boat in right now, but certainly by this weekend. Walleyes and sauger should be available right below the dam. It should be an excellent year for spring fishing.

We have huge waleyes here in Oregon. The best place to cathc them in in the Columbia North of Portland they think they may catch a world record there someday. As for fishing for cats I have caught several 20+ pound cats just north of Grand Forks. as for the walleyes, I have never caught one out of the red, but I have heard that they are there. Try casting and small jig and minnow along the current breaks and see what happens. One thing I like to do is find snags on inside bends and fish the current breaks behind them, have had good luck doing that. The pke and Walleyes are moving in again time for the big Walleyes to start hitting the bait. Good luck out there. Kids are the most fun to take fishing, each catch is an adventure. I'm thinking I'll be catching ...oh...maybe 13 or 14 lb Walleyes and probably some 40 to 50 lb Cats. I'll be posting photos of these monsters after me and my niece get back. I am goung out again today and giving it a go. That late summer water jumps and falls have really stirred them up. Thanks for the tips.
Name: Wiskers Guiding Service Red_RiverWell folks the water is a bit much for us caters. with flooding from Warroad to Ada, the rivers are on hold for the time being. League is on hold also for safety sakes. However!! For you cat nuts like me, I have been doing some research and have learned that the fish move into flooded fields, ditches, and wooded areas to feed on the bugs, worms, ect. Well I tested it on Tuesday, 6-12-02. I was out in a flooded field next to the river where it spilled over into. I was catching fish. Carp, bull heads, stone cats and even got several odd looks by passerbys. LOL .. I guess there is not much that will stop a true fisher person when you set your mind to it. good luck out there and Be careful if you go near the rivers, the banks are very soft and any thing could happen. He said that kids get a little something if they caught a good size fish. Well this league thing is starting to consume a lot of time and getting old. I just wanted to start a little competive fishing and its one slammed door after another. Hope to see the end of the bull soon. Fishing is really taking off. last week winner was just short of 20lbs, DMS tackle said it was close enough to get him a free rod and reel..great job..Cabelas is going to purchase the scale for us .. thats great.. $150.00 scale... also looking to start the club stuff soon..so keep ears open for the start of memberships,, we think this club will only bring the fishing facilitys better. The cats are soon to be on the bite. With this rain and run off, the rivers are going up and this will allow the fish to migrate for spawn. There are a few cats out there biting but the walleyes are there and ready to go, if you can find them as always. Good luck with the opener and happy fishing. Hope to see you on the water. I read the reports below and wonder if we would have any luck there. how are the cats biteing this year? Which side of the river would be best to fish, ND or MN? Where would be some good spots to go when we get there? What kind of bait would you suggest useing? And any thing else you would like to include to help us out would be appreciated.
