Pelican Lake Fishing Reports (by Crow Wing, Minnesota)Pelican Lake Fishing Reports Name: Tim Pelican_LakeI have a cottage up there but i havnt been up there in so long though i need advice what to use go for and where Name: Breezy Guide Pelican_LakeIt's been some time since my last report, sorry about that fisherpeople, but I haven't had the time to get out on Pelican. I've been chasing crappies on other area lakes. I did find some reliable information on the fishing activity on Pelican lake this past week. Yes, it is true that this last cold front has slowed the walleye activity down a bit, but there are a few areas where anglers are catching some fish. If you find the inner edge of the weedline, 10 to 14 feet of water away from everyone else, there are a few guys getting fish with shiners up shallow. There is also a pattern of fish being caught between 22 through 27 feet of water. Either there hasn't been much for crappie action on Pelican lake this year or everyone is being pretty quiet about it. Name: "V"man Pelican_LakeWalleye fishing has slowed considerably in the last week or so. We have had to be much more mobile to catch fish lately. Fatheads seem to be most appealing to these unhungry fish. Good luck! Name: chuck Pelican_LakeI was wandering how good the fishing is I,m coming up to Brainerd in a week to hunt for walleye's I'm not to familair with the area so if someone could answer me that would be really nice I'll check this web site in a few days hopefully you'll have a suggestion for me thanks very much good luck fishing. Name: addison Pelican_Lakehey guys be very careful on the ice on Pelican Lake in Pelican Township North of Brainerd Mn. The first Ice Heave going out of the south landing off of county road 118 there is an area of open water and thin ice that is very diffucult to see during the evening hours. We just had to pull our sons dakota pickup out of the lake luckily there were two layers of ice and he did not go completly down. they were wet and a bit shook up but otherwise okay. A special thanks to K. Smith for the warm fish house and the ride to bring the boys home safely. Name: Doc Pelican_LakeWe were out just yesterday and got ALLOT of walleye in the 20 ft range, red tails and fat head minnows did the best. Name: Ryan Maki Pelican_LakeI was just woundering what the northern, walleye, and the crappies are bighting on we are going out this weakend and I need to now what kind of bait to get. tHANKS, Name: troy mcnamara Pelican_LakeWe drove out on pelican this weekend 12-13-02 there was a solid 12 inches in the bays and there was trucks out in the middle fishing was alright in the bays nice size sun fish Name: BreezyGuide Pelican_Lake12/4/02 Well reports are coming in from all around the lake that crappies are biting in the bays and there are a few walleyes being caught in the evening. Ice conditions are 4 to 5 inches on the main lake and a good 6 inches in all of the bays. Be careful out on the main lake still, Gull Lake was open in a few areas yesterday. Reports are also coming in from Hole in the Day Bay on Gull that walleyes are being caught. I'm going out in search of a few walleyes tomorrow morning on Pelican, hopefully I will have a better report then. Chad Rau (218)838-0344 http://www.BreezyGuide.com
Name: Breezy Guide Pelican_LakeWell lakes are freezing over and it's time to put the boat away. I'm not going to wait until May to put the boat in next year. I plan on visiting the river down by Redwing early this spring to catch some of them walleyes. On with the fishing report, I went out the last two days before deer hunting season, which would have been November 7 and 8th. All of the landings were froze up solid, except the one in Jone's Bay. On that thursday, I was the only boat on the lake and fished for about 2 hours catching nice eating walleyes. I was on the search for the monster, but I couldn't keep the 16 to 18 inch fish off my line. After pulling them from 40 to 55 feet of water, six of them went home with me. In response to the submited reported by bunny young, the Pelican lake she was fishing is up in Orr. Pelican Lake in Brainerd, Crow Wing County, has at least 5 holes over 90 feet and is a very good walleye lake. The open water reports will have to wait til next year, but I'll be hitting first ice here soon. I'll try to keep you up to date for ice fishing this season. Name: Bunny Young Pelican_LakeI was just reading your fishing report on Pelican Lake . Where did you find 50 ft of water on Pelican Lake. Please let me know. I would also like to know where you found 16 walleyes to catch. We were up there all summer and know one caught more than a couple nice walleyes. We did catch alot of nice northerns and small mouth Bass, also a few Crappies ,Perch and Sunfish. We did find one 30 ft hole but that was it. Where is Gull Lake? Thanks for the good story . Nice talking with you Chad Name: Breezy Guide Pelican_Lake10/30/02 Brrrr what a cold October. I should be gearing up for ice fishing instead of going out in the boat. I went out a couple of times this week and it was the first time I finally got them on jigs. Between the sharpe breaks, 40 to 55 feet of water, walleyes have been hitting very well on fireball jigs with rainbows, chubs and shiners during the day. Most of my fishing was on Pelican this week, but I did go out on Gull one day for a guide trip with a very good customer. He only managed to stick it out for an hour, but we landed for nice walleyes on with "roach rigs" and redtails in 27 to 31 feet of water. Chad Rau (218)838-0344 www.BreezyGuide.com [email protected]
Pelican_Lake10/14/02 I've been out a few times this week fighting the wind, but the fish that I've been catching have been really deep(50 feet.) If you can find them, the walleyes have been just slammin the bait hard. I've been using shiners and redtails with a lindy rig. Glow fire ball jigs have also worked well. The fish were hugging tight to the bottom and were hard to see on the graph. I also went out on Gull a few times and Dan is right, the walleyes are going a lot stronger out there and they seemed to be more active and shallower. I fished the south end on the rocks and picked up a lot of nice fish in 38 feet of water.
Good luck and keep fishin,
Leaves are turnin and walleyes are snappin, despite a cold front that
