Mille Lacs Fishing Reports
Mille_LacsI was wondering if anyone knew the water temps currently. Will be going up to Garrison for opener. I would appreciate the help.
Mille_LacsUncle Dave I too will be heading up to the garrison area for some panfish action before opener. Was wondering what lake you were on. We were thinging about trying Borden or Farm Island... Any Advice??? Thanks, feel free to personal mail me too if you don't want to advertise your hot spot. Thanks, Fishandski
Mille_LacsWent up last weekend and fished a smaller lake in the Garrison area and did very well on large sunnies and just a few crappie. This weekend should be prime for the crappie. We fished a shallow, dark water bay in about 3-4 feet with our bobbers down about 1-2. We hammered the sunnies on waxies. Caught a few sunnies on minnows and the crappies all came on minnows. Between 2 of us we caught around 150 fish in 3 hours. Lots of small ones mixed in with some jumbos. It was just fun to get out and enjoy the weather and have some great action. WALLEYE soon!!!!!!!!!!!1
Mille_LacsYes the Crappies have been biting good. It all depends on the weather. Warm days are best in the evening. Be sure to sign up in the new fishing forums.
Mille_LacsJust wondering if and crappie are biting yet on Mille Lacs or if anyone knows a decent lake in the Mille Lacs area that is producing? I'd appreciate any info as I'm heading up tomorrow.
Mille_LacsDave: The crappie bite will be over on Mille Lacs by then. Some of the area smaller lakes should have a good crappie bite going on in June. Depending on what type of perch numbers we have this year, you can find a good perch bite on the rocks. Troll a #5 black/silver shad rap until you catch a perch and locate a school, then anchor up and bobber fish them. Derek Johnston Mille Lacs Guide Service
Mille_LacsI am planning a muskie and walleye fishing trip in about the middle on june and was wondering if their would be any good crappie or perch fishing going on then, too. If so what lures and/or baits work best.

Mille_LacsThanks Mille Lacs Guide Service for the tips!
Mille_LacsHey guys, did you see the new fishing forum?
Mille_LacsUD: It can start right after ice out when the water temps reach 50-55 degrees in the bays and back waters. Consistent warm days will be best. Sunny days are best. Cold fronts and unstable weather will push them back out into the main lake.

Mille_LacsTo: Mille Lacs Guide Service Thanks for the heads up. Any time frame of when this bite usually starts? Is it best in mornings and evenings or best on a warm, sunny day in the afternoon? Appreciate any help.
Mille_LacsTime to call it an ice season for the big lake. There is water all around the lake. The creeks are running and the shoreline is really bad. Talked to two guys who were out Tuesday and they needed 15 foot planks to get on the ice and when they got back in to get off the lake, they barely made it back. The ice varied from 12 to 20 inches on the main lake with many breakers opening wide up. Do not travel on the lake with the mild weather coming. It's over, time to get the long rods ready. Next report will be May 12th. Good luck on opening weekend. We still have an opening for guide trips on opening weekend.
Mille_LacsUncle Dave: The Crappies in Mille Lacs are pretty much a "right place" at the "right time" bite. If you can get a few days of stable warm weather you can cash in on some nice fish. Problem is, they don't stick around very long in the shallows because the Muskies are also looking for snacks and they love Crappies. Some of the better places to try would be the south-end bays like Isle or Cove. Fish inside the reed beds. Malone Island and Mcquiods harbor can also be good. Derek Johnston
Mille_LacsWondering if anyone knows when the crappie will be biting on Mille Lacs and any idea where? I've heard they can be awesome if you get them at the right time. I've tried a few bays in the area between Garrison and the golf course south of Garrison last year. Didn't catch one even though water temps were in the low to mid 50s. Any ideas? Would appreciate any help.
Mille_LacsMR JOHNSON>>> Thank-you for the report, this what we do in the spring on the Detroit River and the reefs in Ohio water of Lake Erie. This can be fun when the eyes are slamming hard. Anytime you have an eye on it's fun. Hope to see you on the water last week of May, call me on the radio channel 18; I owe you breakfast for all the help.
