Name: Justwannacatchfish Upper_Red_Lakecookie, You really sound like you know what your talking about your daily fishing reports are greatly appriciated, expecially when driving 5 hours hoping to catch fish. My dad, grandpa and uncle are coming up to the lake this weekend, could you possably give me some insite on what jig to use or some possible areas to fish any help would be greatly appricated. If you go to the westwind web site under there picture gallery the last pic. is of Randy he was fishing 20 feet from my fish house and cleaned up. It is true that the fishing has been slow from all reports ,but we are doing very well,in this concentrated area.I moved my fish house 50 yards to a spot two guys had got there limits. Name: Fisherman Upper_Red_LakeWent fishing this weekend on Upper Red Lake and Lake of the Woods. It's true, fishing for crappies is slow, very slow. I think they're on the decline because of many years of slaughtered. I got about 8 for two days of fishing. We moved around alot to find those fishes. Lot's of drilling and got very tired. Lake of the Wood seems to be better but the fishes are tiny like every other years. The weekend was windy and very very cold. I don't know how someone could claimed to be catching so many crappies this winter in this website. In the past yes but as of this year I don't think so. It's either they're lying or full of it. I used every imagineable lures and every methods there are but if there are no fish you don't catch fish. period. Good fishing and any where you go, keep the lake clean. Stepdad did not do that well,He must have 20# test on his jig sticks not good. The greek let him use a real rod when he had one he set the hook so hard he broke the tip off , not good but good humor. Wife did real well with blue glow, and spring bobber. Mom did well with glow green and vexlar. Never caught a single crappie between all of us,maybe a dozen walleye with the largest around 22 inches. Saturday was better,we came home with around thirty crappies between all of us. Not a single northern thought between the two days,which was surprise. Again we caught around a dozen walleyes,that will be something in a few more years. He is one of the best pan fishermen I know,he has his limit and is waiting for me to come out to sleeper so he can drop a line. He caught more fish yesterday then the guys in the sleeper caughtin three days. It has been a strong day bite with the best action between 8 am and noon. They come in 15 minute streaks. My 6 guys got set up about 2pm and caught 7 crappies and won huge buzz ,there at the west wind having a bite. Me and the wife went out at4:30 pm. A small snow storm blew through with white out conditions we all most turned back ,but made it to the shack. We caught 4, missed a few and I lost the nicest crappie Ive ever had up to the hole .He turned in the 10 inch hole, took out drag ,hooked my vexlair in the other hole . I grabbed the vexlair and had him in the other hole he turned again and I grabbed him by the tail my wife tried to grab my pole as I tried to hold on but he slid out of my grasp. In my mind I fish to have fun catching is fun but, so is just being out there (NOT WORKING). Everyone tries to catch fish some people just have a little better hand of luck then others (go figure). Go up to Red and drill holes and start fishing because that is the only way you are going to catch them. Good luck. Even GPS coordinates will not help you because the schools move and there is alot of lake up there. As for jigs and bait, you'll have to experiment with that as well. There is no magic jig, no magic spot and information that comes from a bait shop may not help you. It seems feathers are getting ruffled on this site and that is not good sportsmanship. If I catch crappies up there I will post the site, I may even go back to that same spot. Does that mean I'm going to have results, no. All I can say is good luck and try not to be so hard on each other!
