How's the fishing going? I'd like to get into some big crappies but would REALLY like to get into some big Northern. Any suggestions? How far out is everyone going and what are they driving? Thanks, will give report next monday. Steve Name: Justin Upper_Red_Lakehow long is the travel from Winnebigoshish to upper Red? and what would be the cheapest most convenient lodging beetween them if I was going to fish them both in late february thanks in advance Name: Kevin Upper_Red_LakeThe fishing started to pick up a little over the weekend with a few more people out to try. A couple differant reports of over 20 crappies caught by some groups. Right now were going out about 4 miles to about 13 feet of water. There is between 10 and 15 inches of ice just about everywhere. We have not been letting bigger trucks out yet, hopefully by the weekend with any luck we should have a road for all trucks as long as the weather cooperates. Had another report of a guy that got 5 crappies between 5 and 6 PM and the rest of the time he caught around 30 walleyes with the biggest being right around six pounds. The future is sure looking bright. There has been plenty of action and I expect that the fishing should just get better from here out. The northern fishing has been hot of late with three reports of 40+ inchers and another one that was so big that it wouldn't fit up the hole. It should be a good next couple weeks so make your plans to come experience Upper Red Lake.
