The mud was very productive this last weekend. Fish the east side stright out from Hunter's. Find 29 to 30` during the day. Caught 7 wlleye's and 2 perch. Night was not productive. Fish sunrise and sunset. You will do well. Use a perch look alike bait and tip it with a fat head (dead). Good luck. DP

Heading up to fish Mille Lacs, out of Dickies, this weekend. Can a guy bring his portable, and auger, and set up around the sleeper, or do you have to buy a license, just for that, other than your fishing license. I really like to read your reports, {maybe not the results} but it's good to hear any info you can get. Thanks Matt

to all fisherman wondering about ice conditions the ice is about 14-16 inches thick depending on what part of the lake you are on. have some good luck in 26-24- 22 feet of water... low perch counts, do to low forage in the lake. better bites out on the mud i went out there on saturday for a few hours with the sled 14 inches of ice saw many people setting up for the nite bite and one guy caught two nice fish a 29 and a 27 just of the wymer and also on the bombeck earlier in the day resort flat not producing as well east flat is doing good. nobody is driving out about a 1/2 mile past the bombeck nasty ice ridge out there. saw people with good luck on the blue jug and the eilenes 9 mile center and when i was on the south end the gravel bar. all said minimal perch counts but they are down there due to the invent of the aqua vue. but hey i gotta et out fishing any questions email me

just got back and fishing is real slow, stayed there 2 days and got 4 eyes and 1 perch between 6 guys, no eyes being in the slot. best bet is to sleep during the day and fish nights, even the nights are slow but atleast you get SOME action. good luck

Fished the north end of the lake over the weekend and found 13+ inches of ice and very few pressure ridges past 1\4 mile out. Fished in 26 feet of water and caught a 20" and 21". Not to much action. Did mark a few fish off the bottom but had a hard getting them to bite. It sounds like the farther you get out the better the action. Good luck to all and enjoy the 45 degree weather this week.

We've got a sleeper house for the 10,11,12 out of Dickie's and was just curious if I should be looking forward to fishing or bring a couple extra board games. Caught some nice ones this weekend on West Battle in 33 feet. 2 tip-ups caught all the fish no matter where we positioned the house around them. Thanks for any tips.

We had been out of Twin Pines this week and did real well on the mud. Fish about 200 yards off the flats during the day and at about 2:30-3:00 head to the top of the flat, and hold on. We didn't catch any perch, but we caught some real nice walleyes. Even some slaught fish. If your looking for walleyes, try to stay away from the rocks, it seems that the small perch congrate there and the walleyes that are there won't bight because their full of perch. Don't be afraid to through those tip ups out, they seemed to work well. The hot bait was Demon Jeams and fat heads Good Luck to all and have a good new year

Butch, Bring with some tip-ups and cover some ground outside the rental shacks. The fish are spooky, the outside lines are the key. Use the house to stay warm.

Thanks for the quick reply Millelacsbob......great report. Every other year we have been nearly two miles out. I've never fished that close to shore before. If Dean gives us the option on which houses we want what would you suggest.......the east or west end??

Butch, All of the Rentals are in one area this year due to rough ice conditions. The houses are located off the back of the main reef in front of the resort. Thats good country, hard bottom of ruble and sand. The houses are staged in 2 rows running east-west. West is the deeper water but a more gradual slope. I havn,t cut a hole there but my guess is the east houses are in 18' going west to 21'. When you get out past say 21' or so it than changes to a softer bottom. If you take the west end, no noise.

Art, as of Dec 28 the ice conditions at Agate were 4-Wheelers only, no driving trucks out unless you rent one of Deans rental shacks. He was pulling permanent houses out with the resort trucks. The ice is rougher than a cob out on the reef.

Cat-Daddy, What did your bass boat break down? You want to come up north, what are you nuts! Hey, you picked the right guys to put you on fish. They keep there houses moving to locate some action. The ice should be in good shape to get the houses out to the key off shore spots by the time you arrive. When the ice starts to rumble while your in the house sleeping don't run for the hills because thats just the way it is. Good Fishin.

Howdy Mille Lacs Fisherman,

Catfisherman from Louisiana here. I got a fish house rented from Mc Quoid's the 10,11, and 12th of Jan. I was wondering how well the resorts on Mille Lacs do at putting you on fish when setting up their perm fish houses.

Thanks for any help,

~Cat-Daddy~

Just up to Mille Lacs last weekend. No vehicles are allowed on the ice out of Jerry & Gusty Brandt's. They will shuttle you out on a jeep. There is plenty of ice though. I was out there last weekend, and about 10-14 inches. It varies. There is a pretty good size pressure ridge that is slowing people down though. Eyes were slow, perch were slow. Saw a couple on the vexilar but couldn't get them to bite. Fished around spirit island and all over south side. SLOW. Bring some cards and a cribbage board.

Hey, Bluegill the walleyes are going but its mostly a morning bite till noon. The fish are spooky with only a 1" of snow cover on the ice, so drill your holes before sun up if you locate fish the day before. Good bait is the key with a natural presentation. The fish have been eating well as of late so good luck.

Was out on Cove's Bay and the bay in Isle afternoon/night on Friday. Was slow. Caught a tiny sauger and a nice 26 inch Northern. Very few perch. Drove our 3/4 ton diesel truck out pretty far on both bays. On Saturday we fished where Edys had their permanent shacks out on the southwest side. Couldnt drive out there. Did not do well at all here. We fished in 10-20 ft with moving around a lot. Was slow this weekend for us.

Howdy up there. Louisiana fisherman here wondering how its going on the ice. I have never been hardwater fishing and have booked a house for the weekend from Mc Quoids the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Jan. You guys think we will be close enough to first ice for some action?

Thanks, ~Markham~

Well, I was up saturday. The cold front put a semi hault on the fish , but we were able to get a few but the sizes were small. We watched some pigs come by on a rock edge but they were spooky. We were able to keep 5 eyes and 29 perch. Caught 6 pike 22-29 inches. They would come to the jig and waddle away. As soon as I put a small orange and red FATBOY on and eurolarva anything would hit, even eyes. Well heading up Thursday midday, going to stick aroung for a evening bite at my other spot. GOOD LUCK and everyong have a MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!!!!!!!!

We just got back from Mille Lacs. Was out all day on Friday and Saturday morning(21st). We fished Matton and Myr Mar in 23 ft. Not a single fish. Moved over to the east side off Big Point to 12 ft off the rock piles. Not a single fish again. We talked to several other people who were out who were not getting anything as well. The DNR said the best luck was in Wahkon in 8ft. Ice is 10 inches up to 2 miles out on the north side and 12 to 14 on the south side. It's moving around, so watch out. I dropped my rear wheels through on the 4 wheeler on an ice heave, had to be winched off. Fishing should be good this week once the wind dies off. Good luck.

Heading up to test the ice this weekend on Mille Lacs east side. We have a 10 x 20 2 story fishhouse so have to see if the ice is thick enough to pull out. Heard they were catchin em in 15 to 18 ft of water. Grabbin the camera to check bottom and a place for the shak. We'll write more on sunday. For those of you that think that a camera helps you to catch more fish, ha, well then we can tell that you have never used one b4. You will become extremely frustrated at the fact that many, many fish come in to see your lure and never bite! Still it is fun to watch! See ya fishing....
