Still have a great bite going on the Perch and the Walleye slowed some with the cold weather. When the weather got hot (51) this week a lot of holes opened where people was fishing watch out for them. Also ALL inlets and outlets have thin ice in spots. With this cold we are having the holes should be ok by the weekend. The north end of Snag Hole, Sugar bar, west end of Center Bar and middle of Moses Bar. Most of the action been in 30' to 35'. Use a Forage minnow jig, buck shot rattlen spoon, or a glow devil. Best tipped with half a fathead minnow.

<snipped by webmaster> 4 of us were up there friday night and saturday, we didn't bother staying saturday night because the heater wouldn't even keep the holes from freezing over. Whoever goes up there DON't pay up-front wait until you checkout. We caught 1 pike about 26". Stayed at Judds (Winnie) last year and that wasn't too bad. I could build nicer houses for under 200 bucks, these people must rake it in.

<We like to have fishing reports here, if you have a complaint, it should go to that resort, not here:>)

Hey, rented a fish house out of dickies the weekend of the 24th. A little nervous about some of the negative feedback about dickies (Mike). Anybody with a positive experience with dickies resort and the ice houses? The ice fishing also doesn't sound that great in this area, any suggestions with that??

Walleye fishing has slowed considerably in the last week or so. We have had to be much more mobile to catch fish lately. Fatheads seem to be most appealing to these unhungry fish. Good luck!

Fished Mille Lacs Fri at 1;00 PM to Sunday 9:00 AM 4 guys, 3 bites, 2 small pout, and a 4 inch walleye. 5 miles out, of Dickies. Had a Vista cam down all day Sat., and early Sun AM. Only seen 1 decent perch the whole time. In 30 foot you could see all 8 lines, and you could tell if your minnow was still alive. If there were ANY fish out there it, would of been fun. Otherwise it sucked even with all that beer.

Cookie, Don't get too bent out of shape about letting people know where you're catching fish. If these people don't realize that fish move, then they don't know what they are doing anyway. I have gone up there and fished within 10 yards of friends(I know you'll see this pigpen) and watched them catch fish after fish using the same jigs etc. while we sat and caught very few. For those of you that can move around in the later day and early evening ,that is the key. If you don't catch or see anything after 10 or 15 minutes, move. For those of us who bring up sleepers or are too lazy to work for them, pick a spot and hope you get lucky enough to be over some crappies. It's that simple. There's no rime or reason to it. One day they may be at a spot and the next day they may not be (and even if they are it doesn't mean they going to cooperate). My Dad and I were there last Sat. Caught 4 nice slabs at dusk, had some more that came through after dark but couldn't get them to snap. Did manage to get a nice 40" Northern on Sun. Morning before we left. Fished out of Hillmans near the cribs. Better luck next time, Just remember, it's only fishing....

Millelacsbob, The first day we went out of Tiwn Pines but the ice conditions were not very good. THe cracks were openning up... there were a couple I didn't think we would be able to cross. Most of the time we just went out of the public access north of the casino. There are heaves but they look worse than they are. We drove a full size Chev Z71 truck with a 61/2 by 14 fish house on the back and had no problems. Just take your time. We fished about 6 miles out... "in the area" of 8 mile. Good luck let me know how you do. I would just go off the public access if I was everyone.

fishing is not good at all this time of year especially on caribou. your best bet is not to even go fishing on caribou, it is the biggest waste of time. try pike lake the fishing is twice as good and you have a chance to pull up a big one. Feel free to drive out on the ice only one car has gone through the ice and that was on 1/12/03. good fishing

The crappies are jummping out of the hole on Horseshoe Chain of Lakes. Specifically on Krons bay in about 23 feet of water. Look for the top of a christmas tree, on the ice. Fish about 10 yards to the west of that. Fish are suspended about 5 feet of bottom. Use minnows with glow hooks. We caught are limit in less then 45 minutes some going 13 and a half inches. See ya out there.

Jason, Thanks for the mud flat report. Which resort did you use to gain access to the flats. Is the road marked or is a guy on his own to find the route? How many miles were you out? Did you drive a ATV or a pickup? I could use some feedback for next weekend. Good Fishin!!!!!!

We went out 5 some plus miles to this dead sea. Then every one wanted to use the great shovel to bank their hmong tents against the wind from hell. I was in 13 feet of water thanks to are great host at hudec's . A $140.00 drafty box that was to hold 4 drunken pigs that starved one cold night .

i waas up on mille lacs over this weekend and was out of dickies portside resort. when we got there our shack wouldn't get any warmer than about 40 degrees.we were there for 3 days and never had a bite. if anyone else plans on going fishing there don't waste your money and time and go someplace else.

Chad-regarding Eddy's, I just talked with a friend that had fished there for 2 days.... not a bight. If your staying for a couple of days, bring your portable fish house with and fish on the mud flats, eddy's is mostly rocks. I just came back from a 2 day trip to mille lacs and did well. We went to the middle of the lake and were the only ones on the hole entire flat. Between 3 guys we had 9 slot fish and only about 6 that we had to throw back. During the day we went about 300 yards off the flat 37' of water and caught 7 10-12" perch. We used fat heads and deam gems. If your going to catch fish, stay away from the south end, it a major waste of time!!!!!

Webmaster Scott, that would be great as I would like to share my fishing reports as it seems this may be a tougher year.Again I have no reason to lie this is somthing every crappie fishermen should experieance. To release a 13 inch crappie is a great feeling and always shocks people.I know a fishermen that came up last year he fished 3 straight weeks ,only after 1 fish .He got his 15 1/4 inch crappie. In 3 weeks time he maybe kept 4 fish to eat and released many. He is a true sportsmen.

It was ugly.we just came in, 4 of us caught 2 crappies we also lost 2 at the bottom of the ice.My 2 guys are out there for the night and I will be going out at the crack of dawn.Ive had a number of fishermen the last 12 days ,some have worked hard for these fish.I have no reason to lie. The area im fishing has been overwhelmed with fishing pressure>. I will be moving my house this week please respect others and respect red lake. Somone took a dump on the lake where do you think that goes. If you cant dump in a bucket go home.I walked along the shore last spring I found enough garbage to fill a pickup . I found atleast 12 bottles of pop ,3 5 gallon buckets. and other misc. things.

Putsky,

Pretty slow bite on the south end right now. We were marking a few but they weren't too interested. My neighbor at the cabin said hes heard its a bit slow too. We did get a couple eel pouts on the rattle wheels to keep us from a good nights sleep. Good luck!
