Fishing Reports for Minnesota Fishing-Archive
Name: Buck Upper_Red_LakeCookie, promised to let you know how we did Sunday Feb.9th out of Roger's Campground. Well, we didn't. Weather conditions were pretty harsh and that effected the bite. I caught the only crappie out of 4 guys, we pulled up a bunch of perch and I had a big northern break my line. The wind was so bad that someone had to be in the portables at all times otherwise it would blow away. Would like to get up there again sometime soon and give it another shot. I would recommend Roger's as good place to access the lake, very nice people and the lady (can't remember her name) was more then willing to give any advice, too bad she couldn't control the weather. Good luck all! Name: chilly willy Upper_Red_LakeMe and a couple of buddies are heading up saturday to fish from about 11 am to 8 pm. We are planning on heading out from Hillmans out of Waskish. Anybody have any advice. I did a solo trip last year and couldn't believe the fishing. I am looking to make my buddies believers. Any Tips would be appreciated... I'll be glad to pass on any information when we come back. Gps coordinants, etc... Name: Brian D Mille_LacsRabalabs, I stayed in houses X, XX, and 31. They are in 11 feet of water and there are no fish in that area. One 11inch perch, a 8 lb northern, and a few fingerlings is all we caught between 18 of us. I would never go out of dickies. Bring your portable because dickie will not move you even though he said he would move us. Be ready for a dissapointment. I read bad reports about Dickies but thought it didn't matter because I am a good fisherman. A bad day fishing is a better day than a day at work. Not true in this case. That bad! Name: Redneck Mille_LacsOn 2/11 My brother and I were out fishing and caught ONE walleye that measured 5.5 inches it bite on a 2.5 inch rainbow. The minnow was 2 inches deep in it mouth. what a bigg fish!!!! Name: timmy Upper_Red_Lakecought 55 last firday smallest was 1.2 and the bigest 1.8 Name: Basswacker Upper_Red_LakeHey Cookie where on URL are you out of may I ask? I also note that the weather is playing havoc on the bite!! I'm gonna be up there Sat. the 15th I'll be fishin the late afternoon, evening and I'll probably be pre drilling about 30 holes that way I can move around a bit to possibly chase them down! I hear it's warming up so I think they may turn on again by sat or sun.Gotta leave monday ta get back to the day job if ya know what I mean. Are they hittin waxies and fatheads, crappie minnows ? Name: BULLHEAD Lake_of_the_Woodszippel area of the lake is mostly flats, with hard or soft bottom. This time of year all day fishing is usually 28-30 feet deep over the mud--catching sauger, walleye, burbot. you can fish in shallow (10-15') for walleye--this is usually a morning/evening run, but who knows what you might catch middle of the day??? If fishing is slow, try snowmobiling or pull tabs. Name: THE GREEK Upper_Red_LakeSEAN: NO I LIVE ON ISLAND LAKE IN CROMWELL AND DON,T GET MUCH OF A CHANCE TO FISH PRAIRE LAKE. BUT I HEAR THAT THERE IS GOOD FISHING IN THE LAKE. Name: Oly Mille_LacsHey Dewey, there are plenty of good places to rent a house on Mille Lacs. It is however a tough time of year to try to get the fish to cooperate. If you really want to get out however I would try McQuaids in Isle. The houses will run you a little more but it's worth it. I would highly recomend staying away from Agate Bay resort. The service is pretty bad and the owner has some pretty strange ideas about how to run a business. I think he believes that the lake is his and that he's doing you a big favor by letting you go fishing. Name: Sean Upper_Red_LakeMy father has a cabin on Prairie Lake. Do you fish that much? Name: POUT KING Leech_LakeEVERY BODY BETTER SHOW UP FOR "EEL POUT FEST ITS A BLAST AND U ALWAYS CATCH THE POOR MANS LOBSTER Name: mnhunter Upper_Red_LakeI am looking to set up a trip to Red for myself and a couple of Red lake rookies. There are 3 of us that would like to stay the 28th of fEB March 1st.A sleeper or onshore, makes no difference.Any help would be appreciated. [email protected] Name: cookie Upper_Red_LakeBen sorry you had no luck,as you saw red lake is huge, as you no the weather can have a effect on fishing and it has been a couple of rough days. I personley did not go on the lake much the last few days. The wind and cold can play havoc on you if your in portables. It was so cold Sunday night that when Rod folded up his portable the plastic window shattered.Rod was a diehard out there and moved quite a bit even in those conditions. He did manage to find and catch some fish. I was very impressed... and would like to fish with him somtime in the future. Bruce and his bunch were hunkered down and did not have much action. When that portable went by the picture window on Tuesday morning they had seen enough. Rick managed to catch 6 fish tuesday night, can only hope the weather improves and the fish start to bite better. A big key on this lake is to try different spots, if there is no action after dark you need to move, even 20 yards can make a huge difference. If I was fishing portables I would pre drill some extra holes in the area you are fishing and if your not getting any action after dark move or at least try dropping a jig down the extra holes, using a vex. to see if you have any takers ,they seem to come from the bottom out of no where. You don't always mark them unless they come off the bottom after your presentation. Ray,Dennis and Ted were out there last night and will be checking with them later to see how thev'e done. COOKIE Name: DEWEY Mille_LacsDoes anyone have a suggestion where I can rent a fish house (reasonalbly) for a weekend. and directions to where theirs fish. thank You Name: ben Upper_Red_LakeJust returned from the great URL everyone there is friendly. But don't expect to find fish without a lot of pre-planning. We did and got skunked. We fished all the big groups of houses and the basketball hoop and the various rental house locations and checked with many fishermen in those houses. We had a good camera and a good vexlar. We saw one crappie a few northern and caught a few perch and a couple walleye. None of the fishermen were catching anything but one or two. Do your home work and know where you are going to fish before you get there, it is a huge lake and it all looks the same. Don't count on the rentals to be on fish. By the way I saw some awful rental houses so ask what you are getting. We are good fishermen but not good planners. We left and went back to Alex and caught 8 nice crappies in the evening. We had a good time but just a word to the wise--do your home work ben Name: Paul Lake_of_the_WoodsHeading to LOW for the first time on 3-7. We rented a sleeper out of Zippel bay resort. What structure are we likely to be fishing? Any Advice? We are also bringing portables so we can move if we have to. If the walleye fishing sucks, what options do we have? Name: Don Mille_LacsA friend told me to fish at Stuckys Resort on Mille Lacs Lake Does anybody know how to reach them Thanks Name: scott holk Leech_Lakelinda, the eelpout festival is february 14-16th. have fun, but be safe. Name: scott holk Lake_of_the_Woodsicefisher, buffalo bay is a great place for monster pike, but you will need a manitoba license (about $18 u.s. funds) there is no slot limit on the manitoba side on pike, unlike the u.s. side. late february and march are when the pike fishing gets hot, i would try the mouth of the reed river, or on heppners bar, right where it runs into the telles flat on the north end. i was there the past two weekends, and the pike are biting slow. we did have 8 flags between the two of us over the weekend, and the fish we did get on the ice ranged from 5-15 pounds, but i did see a few bigger fish caught. the walleyes were biting like crazy, but lots of small ones, we did manage to keep 12. as far as u.s. water goes, for big pike, try off of springsteel resort, the mouth of the warroad river, zippel bay, or rainey river in baudette. lots of big pike at zippel. make sure you bring dead tip-up bait with, quantities are hard to come by up there, and bait is small (5-6 inch herring). I had better luck last year catching bigger fish with smelt in the 7-9 inch range, and the smellier the better!! good luck, and if you fish manitoba, remember to pinch the barbs on your hooks, they do check you on the ice at times, plus it is a lot easier to get the hooks out of the fish quickly for a better catch and release. Name: Hot Rod Debatable_IssuesNever written anything on one of these but have to agree on the sad state of ice fishin' this winter! I have been going down to some small lakes in northwest Wisc and trying to get some eyes and crappies(No Luck)but I cant complain because I did catch 4 Largemouth over 3 lbs on tip ups! Can you please tell me some places that may have a fish house available for rental. Thank you for your Help Lana [email protected] Name: Harry Upper_Red_LakeCookie: I laugh at myself some times also!! I like using the wood stove because that is what I was brought up to use as a young boy. I have a propane stove I could use but I like using wood!! I met a young man out on another lake this winter and he had never seen a wood stove used in a fishouse, he was amazed!! Also the jig sticks are what I was brought up with also to use. In fact some of them are ones I have made!! I have a vexilar but I am colored blind and cannot tell if there is a fish down there or not but my son enjoys using it.
